A new £153,000 parallel crossing will be installed on a Bordon road to improve pedestrian access to the town’s long-awaited new shopping centre and supermarket.
The crossing will be installed on Budds Lane during the school summer holidays to coincide with another bout of SSEN cable upgrade work.
New kerbing, tactile paving and “belisha” beacons will be installed with the road and footway also set for resurfacing.
A point close to the corner of Havannah Way has been chosen following a walking, cycling and horse-riding assessment.
It’s hoped the crossing will allow easy and safe pedestrian access from the proposed town centre, supermarket and health hub to the three schools and housing north of the road.
“The additional parallel crossing point would also link in with existing pedestrian and cycle infrastructure on Budds Lane and provide even spacing of the existing controlled crossing points,” states a county council report.
